No-Go-Areas
urmila, 22:13h
An NGO of Blacks in Germany has published a No Go Guide for Black World Cup tourists. A White politician has referred to this guide in an interview and has warned Black tourist to go to certain places. Now many White politicians are shocked about this. They consider it as a defamation of the regions and consider it counter productive. These Whites just cannot imagine the everyday life of Blacks in Germany. They actively ignore the fact that there are No-Go-Areas. As if this would make them less real.
Update 24.05.06: The No-Go-Guide has so far not been published. And the NGO will not publish it in future either: They argue that the areas change to fast and thus cannot be included in a guide. But they want to publish a catalogue with security advice.

They change?
Do the areas really change? Because I don't know anything about Germany, I'm not really disbelieving this, but it just struck me as odd. Change in what sense? What changes? Did they say?
Because to read this post, it sounds like they gave in to pressure. I'm reading this with American race relations in my head, mind you, because that's the only thing I've been exposed to, and America is a different beast. So I'm just wondering.

Changing no-go-areas
Yes, I did not quite understand that argument either.
I did my own interpretation: It is difficult to name a particular no-go-area because it is less an area and more the attackers. And they move around, thus it is not so easy to localise.
But then I went to the meeting of the racism helpline and they had a map of Berlin there, which showed the racist attacks. And there was a clear concentration. So it is localised after all. And not changing too much either.
The president of the NGO was there as well and told us about their meetings with politicians, administration and police. And you seem to be quite right, there seems to be pressure for discoursive change. So he is now talking of 'danger zones' rather than No-Go-Areas. But he added that they still know where the No-Go-Areas are.
And he gave a different reason for not publishing the guide. He said the admintration (the federal office for the protection of the constitution) has already published one. So there is no need for another one.
By now there is also a website http://www.nogoarea.de/ put online by somebody else.

Pressure
The NGO has distanced itself yesterday from the website prevent-racist-attack.org which offers advice to prevent racist attacks. The consultations with the administration etc. really seem to have implied pressure to be less outspoken.
