Vortrag: the Arab revolutions, social media and international attention
urmila, 17:17h
Diesen Freitag, 03.02.12 halte ich im Iwalewa-Haus in Bayreuth um 16.00 Uhr einen Vortrag mit dem Titel: About the Amina Hoax and Free Razan – the Arab revolutions, social media and international attention
Aus dem Ankündigungstext: In the Western media coverage of the Arab revolutions particular attention is placed on the role of social media like facebook and twitter. Based on the participation of the Young Media Summit in Cairo in May 2011 and the contact with Arab bloggers afterwards Urmila Goel will raise questions about the role of social media in the Arab revolutions and in particular on the biased focus of Western attention. This will be done in particular using examples of the Amina Hoax, i.e. the fake blog 'Gay girln in Damascus', and the campaign to free blogger Razan Ghazzawi from detention. Guiding the discussion is Razan's tweet: "Back to real activist in danger: are you going to support them like you supported "Amina"? or they have to be gay and speak English first?"
